01/01/07
  • Captain Paul responded to the call for help from Downwind Music, a Tayana 37, becalmed 20 miles north of Santa Barbara. The mariner's destination was Ventura so the tow was a long one, it was after midnight before the boat was safely parked in a slip. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captain "Rand Man" Davis, responded to the call for a tow from 22 foot Anderson, Rand Man, disabled off the Ventura Pier. The boat was headed to Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • A 16 foot Valco suffered engine failure in the vicinity of the detached breakwall in Channel Islands Harbor. The mariner called Vessel Assist for a tow to the launch ramp and Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded.

  • Primary Obsession, a 26 foot Searay in Ventura West Phase II, called for a tow to Anchor's Way Boatyard. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands were the moving crew.

  • Searay 23, Lock-n-Loader, suffered engine failure in position N 34:03.84, W 119:33.18, calling for assistance from Vessel Assist. The boat was towed to the Ventura launch ramp by Captain Randy on Assist Channel Islands.

  • Captains Paul and Randy put in an all nighter towing a sailboat from Point Dume to Ventura. The boat, Gypsea Wind, had been anchored near Mugu Rock by the Coast Guard on Sunday night after they pulled the mariner off in rough seas. It was a long case ending in Ventura at 2 am. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captains Paul and Jason moved Patrick, a 100 foot crewboat, from the ways to a slip at Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Maverick was the tow boat.

  • Captain Jon drew the short stick today and ended up towing the Major Engineering Barge from Channel Islands Harbor to Santa Barbara. The heavy barge would only tow at about 2 1/2 knots so it was a long tedious tow and before Jon and the boat could return to base they had been at it for over 12 hours. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Since Assist Channel Islands ended up in Ventura at 2 am the morning after the long from Point Dume, it was Captain Jason on Maverick who responded to the tow in Channel Islands. Jason and the high speed RIB made the trip from Ventura to move a 28 foot Sportfisher from a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina to Channel Islands Boat Yard for haulout and repairs.

  • Captain Randy went to the rescue of Bobby V, a Radon 26 disabled off Emma Wood State Beach. The boat was towed back to Ventura Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Paul ran the early morning case in Channel Islands Harbor. A Bayliner Trophy, disabled near the launch ramp, called for assistance and Captain Paul and Assist Channel Islands were dispatched out of Ventura. Assist Channel Islands is in Ventura for maintenance until next week. The Bayliner was safely towed to the launch ramp.

  • Captains Bev and Jason moved 36 foot Pearson, Trinity, from a slip in Ventura Isle Marina to Anchors Way Marine. Maverick was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy went to the assistance of the Wilson 22 disabled at the northwest corner of Santa Rosa Island. The disabled boat, Resurgence, needed a tow back to Santa Barbara Harbor so Captain Randy was in for a long one. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy moved a 28 foot Sportfisher from Anacapa Mariner Services to a slip in Vintage Marina. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy moved a Mainship powerboat from Channel Islands Boat Yard to a private slip. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy went to the aid of Zephyr II, a 27 foot Ericson, disabled in Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy assisted Draco Oceanis, a Chaparral 26, from a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina, to Anacapa Marine Services for haulout. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Paul responded to the Searay 21 suffering from an overheated engine in Ventura Harbor. The boat was drifting toward the rocks when Captain Paul and Retriever came to the rescue. The boat was towed back to its slip in Anchors Way Marina.

  • Captain Tom came to the rescue of the 21 foot Corsair disabled in Ventura Harbor. Retriever was the tow boat.
01/23/07
  • Captains Jason and Paul responded to the fishing vessel out of fuel near Anacapa Island. After the fuel drop the boat was able to restart its engines and make way under its own power, so no tow was necessary. Assist Channel Islands was the delivery boat.

  • Captains Jason and Paul, onboard Retriever, rescued a Bayliner 28 disabled near the breakwall in Ventura Harbor. The boat, named Andiamo, was towed to a slip in Ventura West Marina.

  • Captain Randy delivered a jumpstart to a 26 foot Reinell at the fuel dock in Ventura Harbor. The mariner had fueled the boat up but was then unable to restart the boat to continue his voyage from Long Beach to Santa Barbara. The jumpstart was successful and he was able to complete his trip. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captains Jason, Paul, and Randy worked to raise a 30 foot powerboat in its slip in Channel Islands Harbor. The wooden boat went down Wednesday night and no apparent cause was found. The boat was raised, dewatered and delivered to Channel Islands Boatyard for haulout and placement on Lynn's Heavy Hauling trailer for disposal. Retriever was the salvage vessel.   • Captain Randy drew the short stick and towed the Major Engineering barge from Santa Barbara back to Channel Islands Harbor, a 10 hour tow. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captains Bev and Paul moved a 100 ton yacht from Ventura Harbor Boatyard do a slip in Ventura Isle Marina. Maverick was the tow boat.

  • A 17 foot Anderson ran out of luck near the Gaviota Pier at about 1730, calling Vessel Assist for some assistance. The mariners dropped an anchor and waited for Captain Paul and Retriever to arrive on scene and lend a hand. They were safely towed to the pier where they lifted the boat out of the water and placed it on their trailer.

  • Captain Randy went to the assistance of a 32 foot powerboat named Gambalie disabled near Platform Gina. Good Samaritan, Monkey Boy, stood by with the boat until Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands arrived on scene. It was 9:00 pm by the time the boat was under tow so Captain Randy was unable to see a lobster pot in the darkness in order to avoid it, and wrapped a prop. Nonetheless, Assist Channel Islands continued the tow, safely delivering the disabled boat back to the harbor. Once everyone was safely tied up Captain Randy dived and freed the line.

  • Captain Randy moved a 33 foot Carver from a slip in Bahia Cabrillo Marina to Channel Islands launch ramp. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captains Paul and Bev moved Department of Fish and Game boat, Swordfish, from its slip to Ventura Harbor Boatyard, where it had an engine pulled, and back again. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captains Randy and Paul moved Rascal, a 36 foot sailboat, from a slip in Mandalay Bay to Anacapa Marine Services. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
