04/01/07
  • Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded to scene of a Bayliner 28 with dead batteries in Channel Islands Harbor. The boat had dropped an anchor in the main fairway and waited for assistance to arrive. The jumpstart was not successful so the boat was towed to the launch ramp.

  • Dock reconstruction prompted Perfect Rx, a Catalina 27, to call for assistance moving from one slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina to another. When the engine failed to start the mariners called Vessel Assist for help and Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded.

  • Dead batteries claimed another victim. A Bayliner 32 suffered dead batteries while hovering near Point Mugu watching the Air Show. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor.

  • A 16 foot powerboat ran aground near Point Mugu and the Coast Guard called Vessel Assist asking for help in getting the boat off the protected beach. Captains Jason and Paul responded with a jetski and Retriever. Using the jetski Captain Jason took the tow line and a lift bag in to the beach, and then rigged the beached boat for the pull, securing the lift bag to the bow so that it would remain afloat. Captain Paul, at the controls of Retriever, began a slow pull and once the boat was off the beach the stern went under water so Captain Jason worked fast to recover the bouyancy of the boat.   • PT-109, a 17 foot aluminum boat, developed an oil leak near Arco Island and called Vessel Assist for an oil delivery. Captain Jon, onboard Retriever, made the delivery.

  • Captain Jon helped 42 foot Hunter, Ma Cherie, back into a slip in Ventura Harbor. The boat had suffered engine failure while transiting the channel and called Vessel Assist. Retriever was the towboat.
04/03/07
  • Captains Jason and Paul moved crewboat, Alan T, from a slip to the ways at Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Retriever was the towboat.
04/04/07
  • Captains Jason and Paul moved Dreamboat, a 65 foot trawler, from the slips at Ventura Harbor Village to the fuel dock at Ventura Harbor Boatyard. After the boat was serviced they moved it back to the Village. Retriever was the towboat.

  • Captain Randy delivered fuel to Rebel, a 16 foot Radon out of Catalina. The boat was at Valley Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island when the fuel ran low. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy went to the aid of Mr. Wilson, disabled at Yellowbanks, Santa Cruz Island, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the towboat.

  • Captains Jason, Randy, and Paul moved crewboat Alan T for Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Retriever was the towboat.

  • Captain Randy suited up and got in the water to assist 42 foot Hunter, Ma Cherie, with a prop shaft issue. Captain Jason was the above-the-water guy who climbed into the bilge.
04/06/07
  • It was a long case for Captain Randy and it started at just before midnight on Friday night. A 35 foot powerboat, disabled at Beecher's Bay, Santa Rosa Island, need some assistance getting back to Ventura Harbor. The mariner reported that he had just bought the boat. Coast Guard Station Channel Islands came to the assistance of the boat, towing it as far as Smuggler's Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island, where Captain Randy and Retriever met up with it and took over the tow, motoring throughout the remainder of the night. Captain Randy, Retriever and the tow arrived safely at Ventura Harbor Saturday morning at around 9:30.
04/07/07
  • Captain Tom went to the rescue of Concubine, an Islander 32, disabled near Leo Carillo State Beach. The boat was headed to Santa Barbara Harbor and lost an engine, then the wind. Assist Channel Islands was the towboat.

  • A Bertram 33, disabled at the fuel dock in Channel Islands Harbor, called Vessel Assist for help in getting back to a slip in Channel Islands Marina. Captain Tom and Assist Channel Islands were the rescue team.

  • Captain Tom, onboard Assist Channel Islands, delivered a gallon of two stroke oil to a Bayrunner 23 disabled near Platform Gina. The boat was able to continue under its own power after the delivery.
04/09/07
  • Captain Paul was the middle-of-the-night guy who went to the aid of Rainbow, a 32 foot Hunter with a wrapped prop near Platform Gina. Conditions were deteriorating in the channel and the tow was a rolly one. The boat was towed to a slip in Vintage Marina by Captain Paul and Assist Channel Islands.
04/10/07
  • Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, was the rescue guy for Lottie One, a 25 foot Uniflite fishing near Arco Island. The boat suffered dead batteries and called for a jumpstart. The jump was a joy and the mariners were able to continue fishing.

  • Captains Jason and Randy moved a 35 foot sailboat from Ventura Harbor Boatyard to a slip in Ventura West Phase II. Retriever was the towboat.

  • Captains Jason and Randy showed up at Anacapa Isle Marina bright and early, ready to move six boats which were displaced during dock reconstruction, but it was a stand down for the guys. Assist Channel Islands was the towboat.

  • Captains Jason and Paul moved Koko, a 37 foot saiboat, from one slip to another in Ventura West Marina. Retriever was the towboat.
04/14/07
  • Baja Bound, a 26 foot Striper, lost an engine off Point Mugu and called Vessel Assist for some help. The mariners were able to continue making way at a reduced speed while Captain Randy got on the boat and headed out to them. The boat was safely towed back to Channel Islands Harbor by Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands.

  • Captains Jason and Paul raised a 26 foot Tolleycraft where it had sunk in its slip. Captain Paul was the diver/salvage master who attached the lift bags and Captain Jason was tasked with handling the pumps, lines and equipment on the docks. Retriever was the salvage/towboat.   • Captain Jason responded to the disabled sailboat just outside Channel Islands Harbor. The Valiant 32, Insouciant, had suffered engine failure and needed some help getting back in to a slip in Bahia Cabrillo Marina. Maverick was the towboat.

  • Captains Paul and Randy moved 102 foot pleasure yacht, Barbarino, from Ventura Harbor Boatyard to a slip in Ventura Harbor Village. Retriever was the towboat. (PHOTO)

  • Captains Randy, Jason and Paul collaborated on the tow of Ma Cherie, a Hunter 42 sailboat headed to Anchors Way Boatyard. Retriever was the towboat.

  • Captain Randy assisted sailboat, Sea Oak, from a slip in Ventura Harbor to Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Retriever was the towboat.

  • A 28 foot Bayliner called for a tow from a slip in Penninsula Yacht Marina to Anacapa Marine Services. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands accomodated.

  • Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands went to the assistance of a Wellcraft 18 disabled near Anacapa Island with 3 persons and 2 dogs aboard. National Park Rangers assisted the mariners in tying up to a buoy until help could arrive. The boat was safely towed back to the launch ramp in Channel Islands Harbor.
04/22/07
  • Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands moved a 29 foot Bayliner from a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina to another. The docks where the boat was located were being demolished.
04/25/07
  • Chelsea Jean, a 25 foot Sportcraft, lost an impeller while at Smuggler's Cove, Santa Cruz Island. The skipper called Vessel Assist for some help and Captain Paul got engine information from him, called a diesel mechanic and determined which impeller he needed, and ran it down and purchased it. Captain Randy, onboard Retriever, delivered the part and stood by while the mariner installed it. The repair was a joy and Captain Randy returned to base while the mariner made way under his own power back to Santa Barbara.

  • Captains Paul and Jason moved 6 boats for Anacapa Isle Marina. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
04/26/07
  • Contagious, a Pearson Triton 28, suffered engine failure and ended up at the Harbor Patrol Master dock in Channel Islands Harbor. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded, towing the boat back to its slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina.

  • Searay 30, Island Passage, called for a tow from Ventura Harbor to Anacapa Isle Marina where it was scheduled for haulout and repair. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands were the team.
04/28/07
  • 25 foot Davis, Baydon, lost an engine and landed on the Coast Guard docks in Channel Islands Harbor. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded, towing the boat back to the launch ramp.

  • Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands went to the rescue of Patricia Ann, a Columbia 28, disabled near Anacapa Island. There were three persons on board and all were safely delivered back to a slip in Channel Islands Harbor.
04/29/07
  • Skipjack 25, Pamela Gale, suffered an accident while anchored at Smuggler's Cove, Santa Cruz Island and ended up on the rocks. Captains Paul and Tom responded on Retriever at 4 am and pulled the boat from the rocks where it sank below the surface. The boat turned upside down and remained there until Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands arrived with more lift bags and salvage gear and rigged the boat for flotation.   • Santa Cruz, a 28 foot Carver, lost engine power in position N 34:12.33, W 119:23.63 and called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Tom responded on Retriever, towing the boat back to Ventura Harbor.
