- A 26 foot Radon suffered engine failure at Mar Meadows and called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Randy and Retriever responded, towing the boat back to Ventura Isle Marina.
- Raw, a 26 foot Fiberform, suffered outdrive failure in position N 34:16.9, W 119:38.8, calling Vessel Assist for some help. Captain Randy, onboard Retriever responded, but while in transit Retriever lost a water pump so ended up needing some assistance herself. Captain Paul jumped on Maverick and went to deliver a part to repair Retriever and then switched boats with Captain Randy who continued the tow to Santa Barbara on Maverick. Captain Paul got Retriever running and back to base and the mariners were safely delivered to Santa Barbara.
- Tracey Ann, a 47 foot Morgan, suffered engine failure while exiting Channel Islands Harbor and called Vessel Assist for assistance. Captain Jason responded, towing the boat back to a slip in Vintage Marina, Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
- Captain Randy moved Ara Worry, a 32 foot Luhrs, from a slip in Ventura Isle Marina to Anchor's Way Boatyard. Retriever was the tow boat.
- Chayka, a 20 foot Bayliner suffered engine failure in position N 34:05.87, W 119:21.0 and called Vessel Assist for a tow. The mariners, Russian nationals, had very little command of the english language so communications were difficult but intervention by a helpful relay vessel soon had the situation sorted out. Captain Randy, onboard Retriever, went to their assistance towing them back toward Channel Islands Harbor where Captain Paul met him and took over the tow so he could respond to another case on Assist Channel Islands.
- Captain Randy went to the aid of Baja 24, El Pisano, again, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
- Captain Paul crawled out of bed at 4:30 am to rescue Ellie S, disabled just out of Channel Islands Harbor, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Landing. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
- 40 foot sailboat, John Trout, moved from one slip to another in Channel Islands Harbor Marina. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands were the moving team.
- Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands rescued Contagious, a Pearson 28, from a predicament near the Whale's Tail in Channel Islands Harbor. The boat was towed back to a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina.
- Captain Randy was the hero who found the 26 foot Seaswirl, disabled near Yellowbanks. A 24 foot Searay relayed information to Vessel Assist from the disabled mariners but the Seaswirl did not have a GPS onboard and was experiencing radio problems. Once Captain Randy got closer to the target he raised the Searay on VHF 16 and got an updated position for the disabled Seaswirl and from there was able to locate it and tow it back to Ventura Harbor.
- 26 foot Grady White, Shady Grady, capsized near the west end of Santa Cruz Island. The mariners onboard were able to climb aboard the overturned hull of the boat and were spotted by a good samaritan waving their lifejackets over their heads. The good samaritan took them back to Santa Barbara while the recovery operations began. The Coast Guard cutter, Blacktip, came out and anchored the overturned boat in Forney's Cove until Captains Paul and Jason, onboard Retriever, could arrive on scene to render aid. - Captains Bev and Paul moved Sunset, a Columbia 36, from a slip in Ventura Isle Marina, to Anchor's Way Boatyard. Retriever was the tow boat.
- Captain Jon helped Excess Cash, a 32 foot Monterey, back to a slip in Channel Islands Harbor. The boat was experiencing steering difficulty while coming back to Channel Islands from Santa Barbara. Retriever was the tow boat.
- At 2300 Vessel Assist received a call from the Coast Guard regarding a 43 foot Young Sun, Black Swan, aground at Point Conception. Captains Paul and Randy responded, mobilizing gear and getting underway on Retriever. Mr. Clean, anchored at Cojo Anchorage, removed the mariner from the boat for his safey while awaiting the arrival of Paul and Randy. At approximately 0230 they arrived on scene with the stranded boat and were able to begin work shortly thereafter, extricating the vessel from its predicament. They then picked up the mariner from Mr. Clean and proceeded to tow the recovered boat to Santa Barbara Harbor where it was hauled out for inspection. (PHOTO 1) (PHOTO 2) (PHOTO 3)
- Captain Randy responded to the call for a tow from Sun Glade, a 55 foot three masted schooner, disabled just outside the Channel Islands breakwall. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
- Captain Randy was the parts delivery guy for a Proline 24, Swan. The mariners needed a fuel filter and wrench so Captain Randy ran down the parts and delivered them. Assist Channel Islands was the parts delivery vessel.
- Captains Paul and Randy, onboard both Retriever and Assist Channel Islands, pulled a Seadoo off the beach near Malibu. The boat was full of sand and very heavy so it was a challenging salvage and when the boat came off the beach it initially went to the bottom. The boat was bagged, refloated and towed - very slowly because of the bags - to the launch ramp in Channel Islands Harbor where Lynn's Heavy Hauling pulled it on to a flatbed trailer. It was midnight before the guys were done with the job.
- Barco, a Bayliner 28, overheated in position N 33:59.181, W 119:24.386. Captain Tom, onboard Retriever, responded towing the boat back to the Ventura Harbor launch ramp.
- Captain Tom, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded to the Bayliner 22 taking on water in position N 34:08.2, W 119:24.4. Coast Guard also responded to the incident and stabilized the mariner until Vessel Assist could arrive on scene. The boat was safely towed to the Channel Islands launch ramp.
- Excess Cash needed to move from a slip in Mandalay Bay to Anacapa Marine Services. Captain Jon, onboard Assist Channel Islands, was the captain of the day.
- 43 foot Mainship, Revenge, was towed from Channel Islands Harbor to Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Captains Jason and Paul were the moving crew and Retriever was the tow boat.
- Ioarana, a 43 foot Carver, went from Ventura Isle Marina to Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Captains Jason and Paul, onboard Retriever, were the moving team.
- Captain Randy moved Crystal Vision, a 30 foot sailboat, from a slip in Ventura West to Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Retriever was the tow boat.
- Captains Jason, Paul and Randy went to the rescue of Casper, a small powerboat out of fuel between Channel Islands Harbor and Ventura Harbor. Before a fuel delivery could successfully be made the boat had drifted onto shore so Captain Randy suited up and swam a line in to the stranded boat. The boat was safely extricated from the beach and towed to Channel Islands Harbor by Retriever.
- Captain Randy and Retriever retrieved a Seadoo from Platform Gilda where it had become disabled. The operator had tied the Seadoo to the rig and then boarded the platform to wait for assistance. The PWC was towed to Ventura Harbor where the owner put it on a trailer.
- 34 foot Wellcraft, Pacifier, went from Ventura Harbor Boatyard to a slip in Ventura West Phase II. The boat was undergoing an engine installation at the boatyard. Captain Randy, onboard Retriever, was the moving guy.
- A 27 foot Bayliner needed to go to the pump out station in Channel Islands Harbor so Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded.
- Lunker Loader suffered engine failure in position N 34:06.801, W 119:14.211, calling Vessel Assist for a tow back to Ventura Harbor. Captain Randy, onboard Retriever, responded.
- Captains Randy and Brian, onboard Retriever, responded to the call for assistance from Sneaky Pete, disabled at Chinese Harbor, Santa Cruz Island. The boat had lost battery power and needed a jump start. The jump was a joy.
- Gloria Rose, a 21 foot Bayliner, suffered engine failure in position N 34:05.6, W 119:16.0, and called Vessel Assist for a tow back to Channel Islands Harbor. Captain Paul, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded to the disabled mariner.
- Captains Randy and Brian, onboard Retriever, were the rescue team dispatched to assist Tinsatoy, a 25 foot Searay disabled near Mar Meadows, Santa Cruz Island. The boat was experiencing radio problems and Vessel Assist dispatch was not able to establish communication so Coast Guard auxiliary boat, Valkyrie, took over and relayed information. The mariners were towed back to Ventura Harbor.
- Captain Randy was the captain who responded to the 38 foot Downeaster out of fuel in position N 34:00.43, W 119:23.08. The fuel drop was not successful since the mariner was unable to prime his diesel system, so the fuel drop turned into a tow back to Channel Islands Harbor. It was after midnight before Randy and Assist Channel Islands were safely back at base.
- Layla, a Hunter 34 experiencing transmission failure outside Ventura Harbor, was safely assisted back to a slip by Captains Jason and Paul on Retriever.
- Captains Jason and Paul moved Explorer 45, Fortune Cookie, from one slip to another at Anchors Way Marina. The boat swapped slips with Harmony, a Catalina 27 also at Anchors Way Marina. Retriever was the tow boat.
- Aventure Sauvage needed some help from Captain Randy and Retriever.
- Spencer 44, Zingara, went to Ventura Harbor Boatyard from a slip in Ventura West Marina. Captains Paul and Randy, onboard Retriever, were the moving team.
- Captains Randy and Paul moved a powerboat named Babe from a slip at Ventura Harbor Boatyard to the haulout ways. Retriever was the towboat.
- Kyrstin Dawn needed some help getting from an slip in Ventura Harbor Village to Ventura Harbor Boatyard for an engine pull. Captain Randy and Retriever did the honors.
- Rincon, a Jeffries 27, lost steering while entering Ventura Harbor. Captains Randy and Brian responded, towing the boat to a slip at the Village. Retriever was the tow boat.
- Too Koo 2 Roo, a 33 foot Silverton, suffered engine failure in Channel Islands Harbor and hailed Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands (in Ventura Harbor for maintenance) responded, towing the boat to the fuel dock.
- Squalor, a Luhrs 40, ran out of fuel in position N 34:08.065, W 119:18.404. Captain Paul, onboard Retriever, responded, towing the boat to Channel Islands Harbor.
- Larson 23, Bravo, suffered an overheated engine in position N 34:025.66, W 119:27.778 and called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor.
- Captain Paul caught two! 23 foot Parker, Dorsil, and a 16 foot Bayliner out of fuel 7 miles outside Ventura Harbor both needed tows back to Ventura Harbor. Retriever was the tow boat. (PHOTO) (PHOTO 2)
- Captain Paul on Retriever, delivered fuel to a Mediterranean 38 in position N 34:06, W 119:21.
- Captain Randy did the long run to Cuyler Harbor, San Miguel Island to tow Susan D back to Santa Barbara. The case took 14 1/2 hours to complete. Retriever was the tow boat.
- Seaducer, a 34 foot Silverton disabled near the Ventura Harbor entrance, needed some help getting to Anchors Way Boatyard. It was Captain Jason, on Retriever, who responded.
- Catalina 32, Princess Buttercup, lost steering outside Port Hueneme Harbor and called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor.
- Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded to the call for assistance from Princess Anna, a Mainship 39 with engine failure outside Channel Islands Harbor. The boat was safely towed to a slip in Anacapa Isle Marina.
- A 24 foot Skipjack lost steering and the mariners aboard managed to secure the boat to the guest docks in Channel Islands while waiting for Vessel Assist. It was Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, who responded, towing the boat back to the launch ramp.
