09/01/05
  • A Sea Ray 31 named Inverness went from Ventura Harbor Boat Yard to its home slip at a private dock in the Ventura Keys. It was Captain Tom on Assist Ventura who moved the boat.


  • A 20 foot Sea Ray ran out of fuel and summmoned Vessel Assist for a fuel delivery. Captains Tom and Paul delivered the fuel but the mariner could not get the boat to start. The boat, named Sea Fox, ended up being towed back to the Channel Islands launch ramp. The tow boat was Assist Channel Islands.

09/02/05
  • Captain Tom, on Assist Ventura, responded to the distress call from Lucky Snookie, a Bayliner 27. Captain Tom towed the boat back to Ventura Harbor.

09/03/05
  • Black Dog, a 24 foot Skipjack, suffered an overheated engine in position 34 00.12 N, 119 30.591 W. Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands responded to the vessel in distress and towed it back to Channel Islands Harbor Marina.


  • A 26 foot Sundancer named June Bug II suffered a loss of battery power at the Channel Islands launch ramp. Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands responded and gave the boat a jumpstart enabling the mariner to start the boat and contine on his way.


  • An Electracraft with dead batteries was the call that Captain Kris responded to. The vessel, with 4 POB, was disabled in the vicinity of E Dock at Anacapa Isle Marina. Captain Kris, on Assist Channel Islands, towed the boat back to its home slip at a private dock in Mandalay Bay.

09/04/05
  • Dead batteries were the problem for yet another vessel. The boat, a Bayliner 30 named Naughty Girl, was disabled at Smuggler's Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island. Captain Kris responded on Assist Channel Islands but the vessel was able to solve the problem before he could get on scene and it was a stand down.


  • The repair did not last and Naughty Girl called again, with dead batteries at Smuggler's Anchorage. Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands responded and towed the boat back to its slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina.


  • It was Captain Tom on Assist Ventura who responded to a 24 foot Four Winns disabled 1/2 mile off the Port Hueneme Pier. The situation threatened to become dangerous since the mariner had no GPS and no VHF marine radio. Captain Tom handled the situation expertly, towing the boat with 4 POB back to Westport Village in Channel Islands Harbor.


  • Prevailer, an ACB (Aluminum Chambered Boat), ran out of fuel in position 34 08.088 N, 119 16.097 W. Captain Kris, who was already responding to the call from Naughty Girl, took the boat in tow in tandem. Both boats were safely delivered to Channel Islands Harbor by Kris and Assist Channel Islands.


  • It was a very busy day for Vessel Assist! Captain Tom, on Assist Ventura, responded to the emergency of Natalie, a 21 foot Fiberform disabled with a hose problem near Diablo Point on Santa Cruz Island. Natalie was unable to communicate by VHF radio so a vessel named Little Fin relayed the distress call. A little over 9 hours later Captain Tom safely delivered the vessel to Ventura Harbor.


  • A Skipjack 20 with gear box failure was towed to the Channel Islands Harbor launch ramp by Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands. The vessel, with 5 POB, was disabled in the vicinity of the east end of Anacapa Island.

09/05/05
  • Kyee Queen suffered dead batteries in the vicinity of Platform Gina. Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands responded with a jumpstart and the vessel was successfully restarted and able to make its own way.


  • Nookie Nookie called for a tow from the Ventura Harbor entrance. Captain Tom responded on Assist Ventura, safely towing the boat back to its home slip.


  • A Sea Ray 29 called for assistance from Vessel Assist and it was Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands who responded. The vessel was towed back to Channel Islands Harbor.


  • Spooky, a Laguna 18, ran aground on the beach at Silverstrand in Channel Islands Harbor. The mariners assisted Captains Tom and Paul in saving their boat from certain destruction from grounding in the surfzone. The salvage was successful and the boat was safely recovered and towed to the slip in Channel Islands Harbor by Tom and Paul on Assist Ventura. (PHOTO)

  • Sea Senor, a Chaparral 24, out of fuel near Carpenteria missed its destination by a few miles. According to the operator, the boat was bound for Marina del Rey from Catalina when it ran out of fuel. Captain Tom on Assist Ventura responded and they were able to start the boat and motor to Ventura Harbor where the Harbor Patrol allowed the mariners to tie up to the long dock for the night. When the fuel dock opened the next morning they were able to fuel the boat and get underway to Marina del Rey. It is unknown whether they carried a GPS, or paper charts on board.

09/06/05
  • A Triumph 36 in the Channel Islands Boat Yard called for a tow to Ventura Harbor Boat Yard. It was Captain Kris on Assist Ventura who towed the boat.


  • Fantasea, a Catalina 30, went from its slip in Anacapa Isle Marina to Anacapa Marine Services for a haulout. It was Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands who moved the boat.

09/07/05
  • Dead batteries were the problem for Sea Dory, a 22 foot C Dory anchored at Coches Prietos on Santa Cruz Island. It was Captain Tom on Retriever who responded and attempted to give a jumpstart, but when that was unsuccessful, he towed the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor, Mandalay Bay.


  • Esprit, a 27 foot sailboat, contracted for a tow to Santa Barbara from Ventura Harbor. It was Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands who towed the boat.


  • Naughty Girl, a Bayliner 30, suffered engine failure and called for a tow to Anacapa Marine Services for repairs. It was Captain Tom on Retriever who responded.


  • A 36 foot Trojan named B-52 was disabled at the Channel Islands guest dock, and in need of a tow. It was Captain Paul on Retriever who answered the distress call.

09/08/05
  • Maille, a Del Rey 24, ended up on the beach near Willows Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island. It was Captains Kris and Tom who salvaged the vessel and towed it to Santa Barbara Harbor for the owner. The salvage vessels were Assist Channel Islands and Retriever.

09/09/05
  • Evening Star, an Angleman 42, lost its engine at Santa Cruz Island and needed to go to Ventura Harbor Boat Yard for repairs. The mariner called for assistance and it was Captain Tom who responded, towing the boat to the boatyard with Assist Ventura.

09/10/05
  • West Wind, an Ericson 27, suffered gear box failure and called Vessel Assist for a tow to its slip in Anacapa Isle Marina. Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands assisted the disabled vessel.

09/11/05
  • It was Captain Kris who responded to the Skipjack 25, named Seawolf. The boat was disabled in position N 34 00.22, W 119 26.24, with dead batteries. Captain Kris, on Assist Channel Islands, gave the boat a jumpstart and the mariners were able to make their way back to Channel Islands Harbor under their own power.

  • A 21 foot Four Winns with alternator problems was towed back to Channel Islands Harbor by Captain Kris on Retriever.

  • California Girl, a 38 foot Morgan, suffered an overheated engine in position N 34 02.1, W 119 09. Captain Kris on Assist Channel Islands responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor.
09/13/05
  • It was submarine countermeasure testing today on Assist Ventura, with Captain Kris at the helm.

  • Ghost, a Fantasia 35, suffered starter failure at Smuggler's Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island. Captain Tom, on Retriever, responded and towed the boat back to Penninsula Yacht Anchorage in Channel Islands Harbor.

  • Chateau de Soleil, a Carver 36 with engine failure, was towed from Ventura Isle Marina to Anchor's Way Boat Yard. It was Captains Tom and Paul, on Assist Ventura who responded.
09/16/05
  • Game Point, a 22 foot Seaswirl, disabled in position N 34 06, W 119 15, called for assistance. It was Captain Tom, on Assist Channel Islands, who responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor.

  • An Anderson 18, out of fuel in position N 34 17.9, W 119 36.3, called for Vessel Assist. Captain Tom on Assist Ventura delivered fuel and the boat was able to make way under its own power back to Santa Barbara Harbor.

  • A Sea Doo that wouldn't start was the problem for the mariners in Mandalay Bay . Captain Tom on Assist Channel Islands responded.
09/18/05
  • Shamrock, a 45 foot Shamrock disabled near Smuggler's Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island, was towed back to Channel Islands by Captain Tom on Assist Ventura.

  • Canolina, a 17 foot Anderson with engine failure, called for assistance. The boat was disabled in Pelican Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island. The destination for the tow was Santa Barbara Harbor, and it was Captain Tom on Retriever who ran the case.

  • Captain Paul, on Retriever, responded to Betty Jean, a 27 foot Bayliner disabled in position N 34 27.24, W 120 08.999. The boat lost a fuel pump and needed a tow back into Santa Barbara Harbor.
09/19/05
  • Ducky, a Farallon 25, lost a water pump at Yellow Banks, Santa Cruz Island. Captain Paul on Retriever responded, towing the boat back to Ventura Harbor.
09/21/05

  • Captain Kris, on Retriever, towed Sadie's Spirit, a 23 foot Sea Ray, to Anchor's Way Boat Yard.

  • Captain Kris, on Assist Channel Islands, responded with a jumpstart for a Bayliner 25 with dead batteries at the Channel Islands Guest Slips.

  • Barking Spider, a 21 foot Cabo, ran out of luck in position N 34 59.30, W 119 33.01. The boat suffered engine failure and the mariners on board called for assistance. It was Captain Kris, on Assist Channel Islands who towed them back to Channel Islands Harbor.

  • A Sunbird 22 lost engine power between Port Hueneme and Platform Gina. Assist Channel Islands, with Captain Tom at the helm, was dispatched to aid the disabled boat. The destination was Channel Islands Harbor.
09/22/05
  • Kyrstin Dawn, a 32 foot custom boat, suffered an overheated engine in position N 34 19.063, W 119 24.332. It was Assist Ventura, with Captain Tom at the helm who responded, towing the boat to Ventura Harbor.

  • Elma Marie, a 27 foot Spectra, lost an engine in position N 34 12.43, W 119 17.31 and called Vessel Assist. Captain Tom on Assist Channel Islands, towed the boat to Channel Islands launch ramp.
09/24/05
  • Destiny, a Westsail 32, lost an engine two miles outside of Ventura Harbor, Captain Kris on Assist Ventura towed the boat back to Ventura Isle Marina.

  • A Skipjack 21, named Morgan Leeann, suffered engine failure 7 miles west of Santa Barbara Harbor. It was Assist Ventura, with Captain Kris at the helm, who rescued the disabled boat, towing it back to Santa Barbara Harbor.

  • La Mer, a 39 foot Cavalier, lost its engine two miles outside of Ventura Harbor. Captain Kris and Assist Ventura went to the aid of the mariner, towing the boat in to Ventura Isle Marina.
09/25/05
  • A Cheoy Lee 21, lost an engine in position N 34 08.396, W 119 16.270. Assist Channel Islands, with Captain Kris at the helm, towed the boat back to Penninsula Yacht Anchorage in Channel Islands Harbor.
09/26/05
  • It was a Wellcraft 37, Bliss Express, that needed our attention this morning. Captain Kris and Assist Channel Islands towed the boat to Anacapa Marine Services for an engine pull, and then back to its slip.

  • Outer Banks launched from Anacapa Marine Services, and needed assistance getting to a slip. Captain Kris ran the case on Assist Channel Islands.
09/28/05
  • First Look, a Cheoy Lee 35 needing an engine pull, was towed from Ventura Isle Marina to Ventura Harbor Boat Yard and back to its slip by Captain Kris on Assist Ventura.
09/30/05
  • Just off of Montecito, a Catalina sailboat named Twilight, ran out of wind and when the skipper tried to start the engine it was discovered that it would not start. Captain Tom and Assist Ventura rescued the mariner, towing the boat back to Santa Barbara Harbor.

  • Captain Kris and Assist Ventura were the heroes who rescued the Tartan 44, Fair Wind, in position N 34 22.163, W 120 16.180. Kris and Ventura towed the boat back to Ventura Harbor.

  • A Rinker 26 with starter problems called for assistance. Retriever, with Captain Tom at the helm, responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor.

  • It was Assist Channel Islands, with Captain Kris at the helm, that responded to the Radon 26, Zig Zag, with engine failure. The boat was disabled in position N 34 13, W 119 35, and needed to go back to Santa Barbara Harbor.
