11/01/07
  • A Main Marine 24, with four persons on board, suffered a breach in the hull and starting taking on water west of Santa Rosa Island. The mariners issued a mayday so Captains Paul and Randy got underway immediately from Ventura base onboard Retriever. Once on scene pumps were put onboard to dewater and maintain bouyancy. Measures were taken to secure the boat for the channel crossing to Santa Barbara Harbor and Captain Paul went aboard the stricken boat with one of the mariners while Captain Randy took three of them aboard Retriever for the tow. The boat was safely delivered to Santa Barbara Harbor launch ramp and put on a trailer for the grateful mariners.

  • Captains Bev and Jason moved Ko Ko, a 37 foot powerboat to a new slip in Ventura West Marina, Phase II. Retriever was the tow boat.
11/03/07
  • A Coronado 27 lost its starter in position N 34:11.26, W 119:14.96, calling Vessel Assist for some help. Captain Tom and Retriever answered the call, towing the boat back to Ventura West Marina.
11/04/07
  • Following Sea, an 18 foot Bayliner, lost battery power at Albert's Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island, calling for assistance. Captain Tom and Assist Channel Islands responded, towing the boat back to the launch ramp.

  • A 28 foot Searay, with five persons onboard, lost its outdrive in position N 34:01.24, W 119:20.537. Captain Paul, onboard Retriever, responded, towing the boat back to Channel Islands Harbor Marina.

  • 33 foot Crystaliner, Miss Coco, suffered engine failure 16 miles south of Anacapa Island, while transiting back from San Nicholas Island to Channel Islands Harbor. Captain Jon, onboard Assist Channel Islands, went to the aid of the vessel, towing it back to the sportfishing docks in Channel Islands.

  • An overheated engine claimed a victim outside Channel Islands breakwall. The vessel, a Coronado 30, called Vessel Assist for a tow back to a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina.
11/08/07
  • Mystic Flyer, an Islander 44, lost its engine while on a voyage from Channel Islands Harbor to Santa Barbara Harbor. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands towed the boat back to a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina.

  • Querida, a Newport 30, needed a tow from a slip in the Ventura Keys to Anchors Way Boatyard. Captain Jason and Retriever were the towing team.

  • Downtime, a Proline 25 with engine failure, got a helping hand from Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands, back to the launch ramp in Channel Islands Harbor.
11/10/07
  • Captain Randy responded to the Boston Whaler 20 with engine failure in position N 34:02.765, W 119:32.759. The boat was towed back to Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Danse de la Mer, an Ericson 38, suffered engine failure in Channel Islands Harbor, needing assistance getting back to a slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands responded.

  • Skipjack 25 with engine failure, called Vessel Assist for a tow back to Channel Islands Harbor. Captain Jon, onboard Retriever, responded.

  • Carver 26, Mr. Clean, lost engine power and called for help. Captain Randy and Retriever responded, towing the boat back to a slip in Vintage Marina.
11/12/07
  • Aventure Sauvage, Cheoy Lee 41, went to Anchors Way Boatyard from a slip in Ventura West Marina for an engine installation.
11/14/07
  • Captain Randy was the ambulance driver of the day. The chief engineer of the R/V New Horizon became ill while underway in the Santa Barbara Channel so Vessel Assist was called to give the ill mariner a lift back to the mainland. Not only did Captain Randy return the engineer to shore, he put him in his own car and drove him to the hospital. Assist Channel Islands was the ambulance.

  • Captain Randy wore a number of hats today. At 1800 hours he picked up a replacement chief engineer at the train station and delivered him to the R/V New Horizon. This time it was Retriever who provided the transportation.

  • Captain Randy moved The Finder, A Luhrs 32, from one slip to another in Channel Islands Harbor Marina. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
11/17/07
  • En Vol, a Stamas 44 sailboat disabled in Ventura Harbor, called Vessel Assist for a tow back to a slip in Ventura West. Captain Jason, onboard Retriever, responded.

  • The Finder, a 32 foot Luhrs, went from one slip in Channel Islands Harbor Marina, to another. Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands did the honors.
11/18/07
  • A 48 foot Master Mariner sailboat, named Bruyere, suffered rudder failure in Channel Islands Harbor and called Vessel Assist. The mariners were able to tie up to the Coast Guard dock temporarily while waiting for Captain Randy to arrive. It was a challenging tow for Randy, the boat's rudder was frozen over to one side but everything went without incident and the boat was soon safely back in a slip.

  • Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded to the Bayliner Trophy with engine failure in position N 34:03.12, W 119:42.44. The boat needed a tow back to Channel Islands Harbor.
11/21/07
  • Captain Randy went to the rescue of 34 foot Hunter, Layla, disabled at Smuggler's Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island. While he was en route to the disabled boat Captain Randy assisted the Coast Guard with a search and rescue for a 29 foot Tiara, Erin Song, out of Santa Barbara. The boat was reported to be on the rocks and in distress, but Captain Randy found the boat safely anchored at Smugglers in no distress so the Coast Guard stood down its rescue assets. Layla was safely towed back to Ventura Harbor by Retriever.

  • Retriever delivered fuel to F/V Retriever. Captains Paul and Randy went along for the ride.
11/24/07
  • Captain Long-Tow Tom proved he was up to the challenge on Saturday, retrieving a sailboat, named Second Bliss, from Newport Beach and towing it to Channel Islands Harbor. The tow was a long one, by the time the mariner was safely tied up in his slip at Pacific Corinthian Yacht Marina, Captain Tom and Assist Channel Islands had been underway more than 20 hours.

  • Captain Paul responded to the call from Radon 26, Jan Marie, disabled and anchored at Pelican Anchorage, Santa Cruz Island. The boat was towed to Santa Barbara Harbor where Santa Barbara City Police and Harbor Patrol, met Captain Paul and Retriever just outside the harbor, boarding the boat and arresting the three operators. The vessel had been reported stolen earlier in the day so the owner was happy that his boat was safely recovered.

  • Captains Bev and Paul rescued a sailboat, named Wind Ryder, aground near the Ventura Harbor entrance. The boat had misjudged the low tide and come too close to the south jetty running out of water. It took a few minutes for Retriever to work her magic and pull the stranded vessel free, but the mariners were soon underway back to their slip in Ventura West Phase II, under their own power.

  • Captains Brian and Paul, onboard Retriever, responded to the mariner in distress outside Ventura Harbor. The boat, named Salty, was towed to Mandalay Bay in Channel Islands Harbor.
11/26/07
  • Captain Jon and Assist Channel Islands responded to another disabled boat near the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor. The boat, a Prowler 43, was towed to Vintage Marina.

  • Seamaster 26, Yellowfin, disabled outside Channel Islands Harbor, called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Jon, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded.
