12/01/06
  • Captain Randy, along with daughter Rachel and girlfriend Ann, participated in the Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights. Retriever was the boat.
12/02/06
  • Captain Randy and Assist Channel Islands moved It's A Wrap from a private slip in Mandalay Bay to Anacapa Marine Services.

  • Salvagemaster Paul and Captain Randy salvaged the 30 foot Ericson aground near Santa Barbara. The boat had apparently broken free from its mooring and gone ashore. Randy suited up in his wetsuit, anchored Retriever, and swam a line in to the beach attaching it to the stricken vessel. After swimming back out to Retriever he then took a strain on the tow hawser and refloated the boat. The boat was safely delivered to its owner in Santa Barbara.

  • Captain Tom, son Sean and friends, participated in the Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights on Maverick.

  • Vessel, Kyrstin Dawn, lost steering while fishing near the Ventura Pier calling Vessel Assist for a tow back to Ventura Harbor. It was Captain Randy, onboard Retriever, responding in the windy conditions. He safely delivered the boat and the two persons aboard back to the slip.

  • A 26 Reinell needed some help getting from the launch ramp back to its slip in Anacapa Isle Marina. Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, answered the call for assistance.

  • Captain Paul was the early morning guy today, getting underway at around 6 am to assist the sailboat disabled in the Anacapa Gap. The boat, named Dolphin, was headed for Catalina but suffered engine failure and called Vessel Assist for a tow back to Anchors Way Marina. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captains Jason and Beverly, along with Maddie and Butterdog, moved 32 foot Grank Banks, Mollie Brown, from a slip in Ventura West Marina to Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Maverick was the tow boat since Retriever was busy offshore with Captain Paul.

  • Captains Jason and Beverly moved Mollie Brown back to her slip from Ventura Harbor Boatyard. Retriever was the tow boat this time around.

  • Captain Paul was called offshore to retrieve La Vida, a 27 foot O'Day. The boat had suffered engine failure and needed some help getting back in to its slip. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captains Paul and Randy assisted Ventura Harbor Boatyard with the move of Patrick, a 100 foot crewboat. Retriever was the tow boat.
12/07/06
  • Captains Jason and Paul assisted the Alden 37, Reliant, to Ventura Harbor Boatyard where it underwent an engine pull. The boat was then towed back to its slip in Ventura West. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy moved a 38 foot Downeaster from Anacapa Isle Marina to Anacapa Marine Services. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captains Bev and Jason moved a 30 foot Selco from a private slip in the Ventura Keys to Anchors Way Boatyard. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, stood by for emergencies at the Channel Islands Harbor Parade of Lights.
12/11/06
  • Captains Beverly, Jason and Paul, onboard Retriever, moved the National Park Service boat Surf Ranger from Ventura Harbor Boatyard to the fuel dock. After taking on fluids the boat then needed to go back to its home slip at the National Park Service headquarters. The 100 foot landing craft was a challenging tow in the breezy, surgy conditions in Ventura Harbor. Ventura Harbor Patrol lent a hand at the end, helping push the big boat's bow around so that Captain Paul could stuff it into the narrow slip. The help was just what we needed and was much appreciated, once again, thanks to the best Harbor Patrol in the state, Ventura!

  • Captains Jason and Beverly moved a 27 foot Newport named Aeolus from Ventura Yacht Club to Anchors Way Boatyard. Retriever was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy was the long tow guy today. His job was to tow a Chriscraft from Santa Barbara Harbor to Channel Islands Harbor. Fortunately, the seas were down so the tow could be safely completed. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Randy went to the rescue of the 14 foot Chriscraft disabled off of Emma Wood State Beach. The mariners had managed to anchor the boat safely while awaiting Captain Randy's attention. Retriever was the tow boat that brought them back to the launch ramp in Ventura.
12/21/06
  • Captains Jason, Paul and Randy worked through the day and well into the night to raise a 44 foot Sportfisher in its slip. The boat had gone down during the night when no one was around. Captains Randy and Paul were in the water for over 8 hours attaching lift bags and plugging fuel leaks. Retriever and Assist Channel Islands were both on scene for the duration of the job.   • After working the salvage all night Captain Randy was able to grab a few hours of sleep before going after the 21 foot Fiberform out of fuel just off Mugu Rock. The fuel drop was successful and the boat was able to make way under its own power back to Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Long-Tow-Tom handled the short tow today. A 23 foot Seaswirl, named Laura, lost engine power near Platform Gina and called Vessel Assist for a tow back to Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.

  • Captain Paul drew the short straw and ran the case on Christmas Eve. Data Ops II, lost engine power while fishing at the islands and called Vessel Assist for a tow back to Ventura Harbor. Retriever was the tow boat.
12/26/06
  • Captains Bev and Paul responded to the Mayday call at the entrance of Ventura Harbor. Fishboat, Barbara H, ran aground in heavy seas while trying to enter the harbor and issued the call for help. Ventura Harbor Patrol boats 17 and 19 also responded and stood by, but the Barbara H managed to get herself off the bar as a set of seas rolled under her. Retriever was the emergency response boat.

  • Captains Bev and Paul towed the Kyrstin Dawn from the Ventura Fuel Dock back to her home slip at Dave's Fuel Dock in Ventura Harbor. Retriever was the tow boat.
12/28/06
  • Dangerous weather threatened to turn a surfing trip into a deadly encounter for the mariners aboard Reel Hot, a Proline 24 out of Santa Barbara. When conditions deteriorated, the surfers found an anchorage to hide out in. They decided to make a run for Santa Barbara on the Thursday morning but the boat broke down halfway across the channel so they called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captain Randy, onboard Retriever, was the hero who went out in the bad weather to rescue these guys.

  • Private Eye, a 24 foot Bayliner, lost engine power at the entrance to Ventura Harbor and called Vessel Assist for a tow. Captains Jason and Paul, onboard Retriever, responded, towing the boat back to its slip.
12/30/06
  • Private Spot, a Blackman 26 disabled 15 miles north of Santa Barbara, called Vessel Assist for a tow back to Santa Barbara. Captain Randy ran the long case on Retriever.

  • Captain Paul responded to the Bayliner 29, Soful, which lost engine power at the entrance to Ventura Harbor. The boat was successfully towed back to its slip by Captain Paul and Retriever.

  • Just as Captain Paul was finishing up the fuel delivery case, a call came in from an Electracraft disabled in Channel Islands Harbor. The boat needed to get back to its slip in Mandalay Bay. Assist Channel Islands was the tow boat.
12/31/06
  • Captain Paul delivered fuel to a 27 foot Radon six miles out of Channel Islands Harbor. Assist Channel Islands was the delivery vessel.

  • Captain Randy, onboard Assist Channel Islands, responded to the call for help from a Santana 22 disabled in Channel Islands Harbor. The boat needed a tow back to its slip in the Small Boat Marina.
