- A Catalina 30 traveling from Channel Islands Harbor enroute to Monterey suffered engine failure and called Vessel Assist for a tow. The mariners were unable to raise their sails so they anchored and waited for Captain Randy and Retriever to respond. It was a small craft advisory and the seas were rough but Captain Randy was up to the challenge, towing the boat to Santa Barbara Harbor. Before he arrived on scene with the disabled sailboat he assisted the Coast Guard in the search for victims in the water from the capsizing of a 16 foot Hobie skiff near Carpinteria. The capsize victims were discovered safely ashore so Captain Randy continued on his way with his original case.
